Orientation 2011!

WELCOME NEWCOMERS OF 2011
TO THE BIG FAMILY OF NYP LIFESAVING!

Orientation took place today and we are very pleased with the turn up rate! A very big thank you to all who attended, especially those who participated with us in all the events we planned for you guys.

No pictures today because forgetful seniors forgot to bring cameras, but no worries! Another out-of-school gathering is on the way, we will update you the details on this space soon. Will be sending you an email regarding the updates too! Btw it's probably gona be on Labour Day, 1 May. So try to at least keep your evening free for the gathering~

Finally, to all those who came down today, well done for the effort! I know it might have been tough for some of you today but to be honest, training will only get tougher! We really hope to prepare you guys from the start with the correct mindset that as competitive lifesavers, we train not only with skills in mind but also for competitons. That being said, don't be discouraged because many of the seniors came in just like everyone of you and we too slowly climbed our way up to where we stood today. So! we really still hope to keep seeing everyone of you turning up for training frequently alright!

For newcomers, here are the training details again:

Training Days: Tuesdays and Fridays
Time: 6.30pm sharp, changed into swimming attire
Venue: NYP Swimming Pool

Seniors, training will be held on Wed @ swimming pool as well.

To All: Kindly note that the proper attire from now onwards would be swim wears! Here are some examples of proper swimming attires:

swim suit for girls

square cut trunks or normal swim trunks for guys

For those who do not own any swimming costume, just to let you know that we are going to order our team's competition package which consist of Arena swimming attire (trunks or swimsuit), Arena shirt and shorts. Price of the package will be confirm in time to come, but it will definitely be much cheaper as compared to buying the items individually from the market. If you are keen to order the package with us, you may contact Aaron @ 96213877 or come down for training to place order! (:

P.S. for anyone who missed the orientation today, please feel free to come down during our training days to join us if you are still keen! Don't be shy, we swim in waters but WE DON'T BITE! :D ok lame......

Cheers!

Volunteering for FINA WORLD CUP

It has been a meaningful weekend for some of the lifeguards here. We've volunteered to help out for the Singapore leg of FINA World Cup 2010! It was amazing to watch the swimmers break records after records, and I believe most of us also realized how it is not as simple as it seemed to organise a swimming event as grand as this. In any case, we've all enjoyed ourselves.

We all had some applause (and free yakults) for the hard work, didn't we? :D

Till then,

BM course and Nationals updates

Attention especially to those who are interested in getting their Bronze Medallion Certification (BM Cert)! Mr Ivan, after what seemed like forever, has finally approved the pending coach to start carrying out lessons for Lifesaving 1/2/3 and BM. The date for the first lesson and other details about the course are tentatively unconfirmed. For those who are interested to take this course, please contact our captain chen kuan and let him know. It would most probably be on every Tuesday. There are limited slots as to the number of students the coach can take, so do let us know soon if you're keen.

On the other hand, Lifesaving Nationals is fast approaching! In fact, it is barely 2 weeks away, and here's hoping all those who are participating this year will work extra hard and reap some results to show off to Ivan! And for those aspiring participants, don't worry, there is always next year. Meanwhile train hard to catch up, and don't forget to keep your Aug 1st free so that you can be down to support NYP!

just a simple quote to always remember: You need to believe you can to be able to! (:

NUS Lifesavings invitationals 2010

Hello dying blog of NYP Lifesaving, so long!
It's good to be back to share good news and insights instead of making usual announcements and feeble attempts to revive this blog, lol.

Firstly, I apologise for this delayed post! Been trying to find time and all but time's been tight, sorry!

Secondly...

WELL DONE NYP LIFEGUARDS! (:

It was a proud and satisfying moment for most, in fact every one of us, wasn't it? :D

I was certain everybody did their best, and whether or not you broke your Personal Best or got disqualified, it does not matter anymore. What mattered most was that every one of you completed your events, and every one of you put up your best fight.

What made me even more glad was that among all the watchers and fellow competitors, we ourselves were not the only ones who recognised our efforts! I believe everyone would agree with me how incredulously heart-warming it is to be praised behind our backs for all the hard work that we've put in; all those tough times when 3-hours of trainings seemed to go on forever and ever seemed to be all worth it after all (:

And so we've fared fairly well for this year's NUS, what's next?

Lifesaving Nationals is coming up very soon, and I mean like really VERY SOON. Tentatively, the date is fixed on 1 August, which is in 2 very short months. During then, the competitive level would definitely be more intense and pulse-racing as compared to NUS's.

I would love to smile and say "Don't worry, just relax and it would be fine." But sadly that's not the case. It would be a tougher fight than ever, which signifies a tougher training period ahead to boost our chance of doing even better.

In this 2 short months, it would be all up to us to slash our timings to catch up with the bests few, but just so you know while we are training, our competitors would be too. Safe to say, we not only have to catch up, but we also have to exceed. There were way too many 'almost' during NUS, whereby we were literally seconds away from those shiny medals. In order to prevent history from repeating itself during Nationals, I believe there is no better time for medal dreamers to wake up and start stepping way out of your own comfort zone, because otherwise you can seriously stop dreaming.

In a nutshell, I am trying to tell all competitors to brace up yourself for tougher days ahead. Train hard, and while it might be a rough journey, we'll make it all worthwhile! (:

*

On a lighter note, I wish to inform those who do not have their BM cert that your course training will be starting very soon within these 2 weeks, so do check out this space often to stay updated. Alternatively, you can turn up frequently for trainings whereby announcements would usually be made spontaneously.

Also, all should note that beach trainings has been resumed. Starting from this weekend, every Sunday 10.30am we will meet at Harbourfront MRT station and head down to Palawan beach together to start training for our open water events.

See you guys during training then, xoxo!

announcements

Hiiiiiii everyone!

In this post, there are three issues to talk about.

Firstly, today some of the seniors had went down to Arena warehouse to get direct stocks, as well as applied for NUS competition's team package.

The swim suit design will be the blue colour one instead of the dark grey one, according to majority votes (: It costs roughly $33 for just the swimsuit itself, or $60+ with another blue rash guard. May post the pictures up next time. This is just a short update to inform all of you, the package price may decrease but for the time being, it will be this price.

Btw, do come down for training next Tuesday to collect all those Arena stuff that you told the seniors to help you buy alright, we don't want to keep the items for too long!

*

Next up, we wanna inform you guys about the BBQ gathering on Friday, Vesak Day!

location: Aaron's house at Hougang. Please sms him @ 96213877 if you don't know how to go, or what is the address. Alternatively, you can check the facebook event on his facebook wall. The details should be inside.
time: BBQ's starting around 6pm but you may wanna turn up earlier to help with the set up! It will end the next day, so feel free to stay over but if not, just go back before your curfew!
date: Vesak Day, Friday, 26 May

To go, please RSVP at the facebook event itself. Thanks!

*

Finally, the last announcement!

Some of us came up with this brilliant pot luck dinner idea, and we were thinking of trying it out during one of our training! Maybe next Tuesday..... :/

Anyway! How does it goes? Very simple actually, every one will pass Aaron $2 for lifesaving funds and we will use the fund to buy ingredients like Tuna, cream cheese, ham, bread, drinks etc, and after training we will make sandwiches to eat as dinneerrrr! Cool right, so cost and time effective somemore, haha! But more details we would probably discuss during the BBQ itself on Friday la! :D

So that's about all, hope to see everyone down for training regularly, and please inform captain should you be really unable to come down for training ok! And really hope to see everyone on Friday's BBQ!

TIME TO PARTYYYY ;p

xoxo

NYP Biathlon

Hi dear (fresh and old) lifeguards,

poster credit to me ^^V

NYP is having Biathlon selection for Biathlon POL-ITE this year! Yes, it's biathlon POL-ITE, not the usual nyp biathlon challenge anymore!

There are 3 categories: single male/single female/team.
For the team catergory, it has to be a guy+girl combo, one swim one run. Top 3 winners of each categories will be elected during the selection days and will be representing NYP for the Biathlon POL-ITE championship and race with the tops from the other POLYs and ITEs!

Selection dates: 7 July & 14 July
IVP date: 28 July

I am not too sure about the venue, distance and all, but whoever is interested please feel free to make a trip down to the SA office at block E level 4 to ask for the application forms alright, registration freeeeee! It would be awesome if someone from Lifesaving team gets to represent NYP for this IVP! (: No obligations though.

more updatesssss

Some of us may be still experiencing the hangover from nitrogen due to the weekend dives at Tioman, but that doesn't gives any of us excuses not to go for morning AND evening training tomorrow!

Right, here are some updates with regards to club crawl (again)!

Firstly, I would like to remind all the in-charge to take note that club crawl is NEXT THURSDAY, so better get cracking! Whoever needs help due to other commitment please please please let us know now, so everything would not be in a mess when the day itself arrives.

So far, our notice board is under construction already. Apparently Shimin & CK came up with this amazing concept (not telling now, keep you all in suspense hehehe) which would be carried out tomorrow after morning training. I will probably be assisting them with the notice board tomorrow as well.

I hope Aaron is coping well with the T-shirt designing, could you please attach and email all of us your work asap alright.

As for the flyers and poster designs, Ah Kuan please remember to do it and email EVERYONE as well. Don't email selectively hor, everyone ah! (:

We also have the banner... I was told that Kiathan suggested to print the entire banner at some print shop, but some of us feel that it is too expensive and a little uncalled for, since we have budget constrain and if we do it ourselves, we get to bond a bit too! So, Kiathan please email everyone a copy of the banner design and we can figure a day to start painting it alright!

And that leaves us with Weilun's swimsuit design selection. I guess this can wait till club crawl is over, but meanwhile let's try to make up our mind which design should we use ultimately yeah, otherwise all the sizes would have been taken up already, and then we'll have to become junkies again, taking all the left overs.

That's all for now, see everyone at the pool at 9AM tomorrow for training!

xoxo

Clubcrawl 10 updatesssss

HELLO EVERYBODY!

Hope all of you've been constantly checking back here as it's more lively now that we are communicating through here more often. okay here're some serious updates on clubcrawl '10. We decided to assign an in-charge for different components of club crawl, and the in-charge will be responsible for planning and completing the component assigned to him/her.

Flyer designing - Captain Kuan
Club Crawl yellow lifeguard shirt - Captain Kuan
Notice Boards designing - Jiamin & Shimin
Logo & Slogon designing - Aaron
Banner - Kiat Han
Happiness photo - Team
Logistic for competition (swimsuit, shirt, jacket, package etc) - Weilun

I hope that the rest of the team will assist the in-charge in completing their tasks before dateline, which is club crawl itself. We aim to make this year's club crawl a roaring success ok!

Btw, I've did a bit of research and found a pretty useful logo which could be used on our team shirt.

gimmie some response as to what you think about it alright, spam the tagboard! and here are some slogan which I think might make it, comment too ty:

- we try to stay dry, that's how good we are
- the guys by the pool
- so others may live
- training hard to save life

Meanwhile that's about all, train hard for your events,
NUS invitation is on 19 June!

club crawl 2010

HARLO, SO LONG PEOPLE!

Okay, guess most of us almost forgot this space existed rightttt!

Okay. Some of you may not have realised, but Club Crawl is fast approaching and it's about time we start preparing for it, esp if we're going to take this recruitment exercise seriously- which we should. I personally feel that even though I don't think anybody is checking out this (so dead) blog any time soon, I've decided to inform through here as well, that we should have a meeting to discuss about this event soon! Some of the decisions/applications have to be made by 31st March, which is coming wed, hence I am suggesting meeting on Tuesday. Below are some of the things we should be discussing about:

  1. booth decoration
  2. team shirt for club crawl or not (and design if we are opting for one)
  3. orientation camp for recruits or not
  4. flyers
  5. during Club Crawl itself
  6. etc
So hopefully the meeting will be a fruitful and meaningful one, and hopefully attendance will be satifactory alright!

Till then, peeps!
P.S. remember to turn up for training alright, currently doing full day training for wed and fri, for more details please contact captain ong @ you-know-the-number :p

Secret Santa gift exchange section

First, I would like to confirm with everyone that we have already settled the 'Secret Santa' part. Everyone should have received a message from either me or Cherlyn regarding who you are supposed to get a present for, right? So now I shall update you all about the rules of the game! :D

dear Santa,
- you may try to ask for hints from your receiver what he/she wants, but keep maintaining your secrecy! (you may try to ask somebody to ask somebody to ask somebody to ask your receiver what he/she wants so that it is not so obvious, or whatever)
- you should purchase a present for your receiver which is between $13-$15.
- please wrap your present!
- your receiver should not know who he/she will be receiving the gift from AT ALL TIMES.

dear receiver,
- you are supposed to write down what you want (that should cost between $13-$15) from your secret santa, and drop it into a container which could be found with me (:
- you are not supposed to tell anyone what you want, but you are allowed to drop light hints!
- during the day itself, you will need to guess from the pile of presents which one would be yours.

To all: Hope everyone enjoy buying prezzies!

Our Hotel

If you have been keeping track at the FB events page, you should know that we have already finalized and booked our hotel rooooom! :D

HOTEL RE! FTW~

correct, we booked a room at Hotel Re! and it's looking goooooooooooood! Check out the pictures of the room below! We booked a Premier Room, btw ;P

like a cool only right? hehe, yea this hotel cost us about $230, but we are really unsure whether they have any hidden charges or not. Therefore, should there be no hidden charge, the cost of hotel per person should be $15 (counting only people who confirmed their attendance). But we will make it between $15-$18 each in case there is really some extra charges for things like tax and stuff like that.

Hopefully it can contain every single one of us without being packed like a sardine inside~

BTW people! We're not exactly going with the rule to have so manyyyyy people in ONE hotel room, so... Let's try to tone down a bit when necessary, and b slightly more discreet. We really have no idea what will happen if they caught us ALL in one room, and we don't wanna think about it just yet. So, pray, people, pray.
There would be times when you guys will hv to come in by batch (2-3 at a time) so as to prevent suspicion, so please give us a call before you come up. Anyway you will need to check with us what room isit anyway :)

Okay, currently that's about all. We will keep updating through this virtual space here, please check back often, or follow the blog! AND, keep the tagboard alive please! (:

xoxo
Jiamin!
